Wickliffe (OH) Fire Department Gets Hands-Free CPR Devices

Wickliffe firefighters soon will be using new hands-free lifesaving devices to perform CPR. Fire Chief James Powers said the department recently purchased two LUCAS 3 Chest Compression Systems. The LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System is a device that rescuers can fasten around a victim's chest and once applied, it delivers continuous, high-quality, consistent compressions.
It is designed to help improve outcomes of sudden cardiac arrest victims and improve operations for medical responders. Performing 102 compressions per minute with a depth of 2.1-inches, LUCAS can be deployed quickly with minimal interruption to patient care.

Powers explained that the device will free up a person’s hands for other emergencies.

Rocky Mount (NC) Fire Apparatus Reunites Old Friends

A longtime friendship between two retired Rocky Mount firefighters led to one of the men going home with a vintage fire engine. Todd Joyner and Alan Booth are former Rocky Mount Fire Department co-workers and have been friends for years.
The pair has shared plenty of stories throughout the years, including one from Joyner about a vintage fire engine — a 1929 American LaFrance Hosewagon — that he had dreamed of owning since his childhood. That dream recently came true ... sort of ... after a chance sighting by a local resident led Booth to buy the engine from the Rocky Mount Shriner’s Club.

Approximately a week ago, local resident Bob Bartosz saw an engine for sale in front of the Rocky Mount Shriner’s Club, not knowing it was the same one that Joyner had ridden as a child. He contacted Joyner and Booth with pictures of the engine and information. Joyner said he did not have the money or space to house the engine, so Booth bought it instead.
