On Oct. 22, 2015, then-18-year-old Quinton Kane was riding his bicycle in a bike lane near the United Dairy Farmers on Brown Street when he was struck by a Dayton Fire emergency vehicle, according to a lawsuit filed this month.

The fire engine, which was on a non-emergency run, was turning into UDF’s parking lot and did not yield, hitting Kane, running him and his bicycle over and trapping him under the vehicle

The fire truck from Penn Hills Station No. 5 was on its way to a call for downed wires, Chief Burton said. The emergency lights and siren were on as the truck entered the intersection. 

The fire truck T-boned the woman’s vehicle and struck the passenger side, he said. The woman was alone in the car. No firefighters were injured.

ELKHART — The Elkhart Fire Department dedicated their brand new fire truck Sunday afternoon during a brief ceremony.

After the ceremony, crew members pushed the rig into the station as bagpipes played.

The Assistant Fire Chief says this new rig will be particularly helpful serving the north side of town.

"Having a 75-foot ladder truck on the north side of town like this, with all the hotels and all of the new business is coming in and Elkhart, it's definitely going to help with the larger structures that we have. That's why we definitely wanted a ladder truck on the side of town," said Steve Kamp, Elkhart Fire Department assistant chief
