Tiverton (RI) Fire Apparatus Involved in Crash

Three people were taken to the hospital and a car and a fire truck were heavily damaged in a head-on collision on Bulgarmarsh Road Monday. Tiverton police are investigating whether the Westport woman who hit the fire truck was driving under the influence.
Tiverton police Capt. Patrick Jones said Borges, who was still in the intensive care unit Tuesday at Rhode Island Hospital, has a “significant history” of motor vehicle offenses, including a 2014 arrest in Massachusetts for operating under the influence of alcohol. Jones said investigators will be seeking to obtain Borges’ medical records from the hospital in order to determine if she was impaired while driving.

Jones also said the Tiverton Police Department will also be stepping up patrols this summer to deter impaired driving. In the past two weeks, there have been at least three suspected drunken driving incidents in Tiverton, including an April 18 crash on Route 24 where a 41-year-old Fall River woman suffered serious injuries after crashing into a guardrail near the Fish Road exit.

Virtual Reality Activity at FDIC International 2017 Raises $25,000 for Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund

PITTSFIELD, N.H. — May 10, 2017 — Globe Manufacturing Company continued its partnership with the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund at FDIC International 2017, the nation’s largest firefighter training conference and exhibition held April 27-29 in Indianapolis.

FDIC was Globe’s official launch of ATHLETIX™, the world’s first turnout gear with stretch. Attendees were invited to experience the unprecedented range of motion that is possible with the new ATHLETIX™ gear in a virtual reality experience for firefighters in the booth. Firefighters then spun a wheel to determine a donation ‒ $10, $20, $50, or $100 ‒ to the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund in their name. Globe raised and donated $25,000 to the Fund.

“Due to the expanded requests for assistance from the fire service community across the nation, the Terry Fund continues to work hard to ensure that all firefighters and their families have the resources to properly operate safely and, when faced with medical or emergency situations, the help needed,” said Brian Farrell, chairman of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund and brother of Terry Farrell. “This help is a direct result of the support and confidence given to the Fund by Globe, who not only makes some of the finest turnout gear available but continues to pay it forward for all who serve our communities daily."

“At Globe, we are celebrating 130 years of innovation this year,” said Rob Freese, senior vice president of marketing at Globe Manufacturing Company. “We have always given back to the fire service and are proud to partner with the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, a hardworking group of volunteers that assists firefighters, families, and fire departments across the nation in their times of need.”

McClarin Plastics Expands to Oklahoma

Custom Composites

McClarin Plastics, a premier manufacturer of highly engineered thermoformed plastic, fiberglass reinforced plastic, composite products and complex assemblies, today announced its investment in Oklahoma City-based Custom Composites, a niche manufacturer of polypropylene and composite fiberglass products including tanks, grating, fire apparatus, and custom parts. Together, McClarin and Custom Composites will continue to supply innovative composite products to the industrial equipment, construction, rail, transportation, energy, agricultural, and medical industries.

With the addition of Custom Composites, McClarin is even now better positioned to serve the Central and Southwest United States. This acquisition represents the next evolution of McClarin Plastics as it continues to experience significant growth. The move adds significant strategy value to the company, which already maintains facilities in the Pacific Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast United States.

“The opportunity to expand operations to serve Oklahoma and surrounding states is a tremendous benefit to McClarin Plastics, and more importantly, our customers,” said Jerry Armstrong, CEO of McClarin Plastics. “We’ve experienced continued demand for our highly engineered products and this is the next step in improving our delivery and production capabilities in that area. Through the acquisition of Custom Composites, McClarin will be able to hit the ground running and leverage a state-of-the-art facility and an experienced team of employees.”

McClarin Plastics plans to invest additional capital into Custom Composite’s new, state-of-the-art 83,000 sq. ft. production facility. McClarin will continue to service Custom Composites existing customers and plans to move additional business to the location. McClarin expects to add over 50 additional jobs at the facility over the next several years, and has earned support from the Oklahoma City council in the form of economic development incentives for doing so. McClarin partnered with MetaFund, an Oklahoma City-based socially responsible private equity firm that owned Custom Composites, to complete the deal and spark additional job growth at the facility.

The acquisition of Custom Composites marks another successful and strategic addition to McClarin Plastics. With geographic coverage of the entire United States and a variety of innovative, often custom-designed, composite manufacturing processes, McClarin has positioned itself as an industry-leader. McClarin, a portfolio company of Blackford Capital, continues to pursue add-on opportunities throughout the U.S.
