Firefighter Injured after Teenage Driver Crashes Into Fire Truck on Detroit's East Side

DETROIT - A firefighter was injured Thursday when a 17-year-old driver crashed into a fire truck at Mt. Elliot Street and  Gratiot Avenue on Detroit's east side.

Firefighters were responding to a fire just around the corner when the teenage driver crashed an Impala into the side of the fire truck.

One firefighter was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with minor injuries.

Gary Fire Department to Receive Federal Grant for Fitness

The Gary Fire Department will use just a little more than $260,000 from a federal grant to pay for medical examinations for firefighters and other department personnel. Money will come from an Assistance to Firefighters program grant provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Fire Chief Paul Bradley said the bulk of the grant would be used to pay for physical examinations for all fire department personnel, which numbers nearly 200.

Some of the funds also will be used to buy exercise equipment that will be placed at fire stations and at the department's training facility.

Firetruck Involved in Deadly Wreck in Northampton County (PA)

The Northampton County Coroner's Office was responding to a fatal crash Friday morning involving a firetruck in Allen Township. The wreck also involved a car at 4013 Cherryville Road, a Northampton County emergency dispatch supervisor said, also confirming the coroner's office was called. The crash was reported at 7:06 a.m., county records show.

Photo Gallery: Remodeled Fire Station No. 8

Bakersfield Fire Station No. 8 is remodeled and back in service after two years and about $2 million. The station located at 2213 University Avenue was built in 1956. The remodel added a laundry facility, spacious kitchen, gym and room specifically to store the firefighters' gear.

Before the city began the renovation, there were electrical problems that caused fires in the walls and roof leaks.

The station held an open house showing the completed renovation to the public and city officials.
