Wilton (CT) Fire Department Honors 10-Year-Old Boy Fighting Cancer

The Wilton Fire Department welcomed the youngest officer of the Ithaca Police Department as an honorary deputy chief on Monday. Colin Toland, 10, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 2, received a shoulder patch, a certificate from the fire department, and a front-seat ride in the engine truck.
The 10-year-old was sworn into the Ithaca Police Department in September, though doctors said he only had several months to live when the brain tumor returned in 2015.

After hearing his story, Wilton Fire Chief Ronald Kanterman said he immediately agreed to set up an event to honor him and his family while they were in town.

Red Wing (MN) Training Tower and Fire Station Plans Advance

Currently, the Red Wing Fire Department conducts one live burn a year, costing $8,000. For additional training, Draper said, firefighters are sent to Rochester.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Interagency Airtanker Board issued the 17-month interim approval on Tuesday for the aircraft capable of carrying 19,200 gallons of liquid.

During the interim approval, Global SuperTanker "must take steps to ensure its 747 aircraft delivers fire retardant in a manner that is effective and efficient and aids firefighting efforts on the ground." the Forest Service said in a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press.
