Seward County (KS) Approves Purchase of Needed Fire Apparatus

The truck is a 2016 Rosenbauer 1250 GPM RXT Maverick, with a Freightliner M2 106 4X4 two-door chassis and a Cummins diesel 300 horsepower engine.

The new truck likewise has the following features: • Allison automatic transmission; • 1,500-gallon tank; • 1,250-gallon-per-minute pump; • Rear reel line; • Ladders included; • Pike poles included; • Hard suction included; • Pump and roll; and • Front bumper turret.

New Robinson Township (MI) Fire Apparatus Takes Road

The 2016 Chevrolet 3500 went on the road in February. Fire Chief Paul VanVelzen said the vehicle will also serve as a backup rescue or medical truck. This is the fourth new fire truck acquired in the 12 years that VanVelzen has been Robinson Township's fire chief, he said.

The $55,000 vehicle replaces an old Michigan Department of Natural Resources 4x4. Prior to this, the most recent vehicle replacement was a 2,200-gallon tanker acquired in 2013.

There are five trucks at the Robinson Township Fire Department garage, located at the corner of 120th Avenue and Buchanan Street. The trucks, by their number, are: 2021, a 2007 pumper; 2071, a 2009 rescue truck; 2061, a 2013 2,200-gallon tanker; 2062, a 2004 5,000-gallon tanker that was recently refurbished; and 2081, the new brush truck.

LaFayette (AL) Fire Awarded $171k Grant

A grant that the LaFayette Fire Department received in the summer of 2016 is now having a big impact on the Fire Department and some upcoming equipment upgrades. The LaFayette City Council cleared the hurdles on Monday night to begin the process of moving forward with acquiring new equipment for the Fire Department.

According to LaFayette Fire Chief Heath Cotney on July 14, 2016 the city of LaFayette’s Fire Department was awarded a grant of $171,000. That grant is set to be used for the purchase of new breathing apparatus devices for firefighters and for exhaust removal systems for five vehicles in the Fire Departments fleet.

Cleveland Residents Donate Money to Purchase Fire Apparatus in Israel

Israeli fire and rescue squads got a little bit of help from an unexpected source recently, friends of the board of Cleveland Jewish National Fund in Barry Feldman and Sandy Zieve. After hearing about the need for more firetrucks in Israel during a Jan. 11 presentation by Ariel Kotler, development officer of Israel operations for JNF, and Shmulik Friedman, chief of operations for Israel’s fire and rescue services, the two Cleveland-area residents stepped up and donated funds to help purchase a fire truck for Israel.

Mindy Feigenbaum, Northern Ohio director of JNF, said trucks are badly needed in Israel to both the aging fleet of existing trucks and a rash of large fires. She estimated that a truck would go on 1,000 to 2,000 calls annually.
