The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

NFPA 1911 Updates

The standard that governs the work we do as Emergency Vehicle Technicians has recently changed to include Driver/Operator inspection duties and frequencies. The scope of this standard has also been changed significantly. Until this latest update the standard applied mostly to structure engines and ladder fire apparatus. Today the standard applies to all emergency vehicles over 5,000 lbs. This now includes ambulances, brush engines and many command vehicles. It even includes a section on trailers.

Mdewakanton Sioux (MN) Purachses 3-in-1 fire truck

The number on the back of the Mdewakanton Public Safety Department's new fire truck is "11," but it gets boasting rights as No. 1. It's the first truck of its kind in the state - possibly the country - combining the capabilities of a fire engine, a ladder truck and emergency medical services into one vehicle, which the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community says should save money and quicken response times.

Ambulance Crashes Into Hempfield Dialysis Clinic

Two people working for Fayette EMS were injured Tuesday afternoon when the ambulance they were traveling in crashed into part of a dialysis clinic in Hempfield, according to fire officials. Adamsburg Fire Chief Don Thoma, who was assisting High Park Fire Chief John Howell on the call, said the ambulance driver and passenger were picking up a patient just before 3 p.m.

New Medic Unit Enters Service

Piqua Fire Department's newest piece of equipment, Medic 3 shown on the scene of a recent fire on Boone Street. The fire department took delivery of the new medic unit on February 7. Since entering service as the department' "first out" medic on the 13rth the ambulance has already made a number of runs.
