The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Pioneer Hook & Ladder's (MD) Long History on Franklin Street

In December 1871, the Washington County courthouse at Washington Street and Summit Avenue caught fire. The building burned to the ground, leading local officials to realize they needed more advanced firefighting capabilities, said Justin Mayhue, curator of the First Hagerstown Hose Co. Museum of Firefighting History on South Potomac Street.
Now the station at 21-23 W. Franklin St., which has served the company since 1915, is up for sale. The city bought new ladder trucks that are too big for the building. Still, Mayhue hopes whatever happens to it doesn't mean forgetting the years of sacrifice of Pioneer's members.

Stewiacke and Truro (Canada) Respond to Two Tiny Grass Fires

Two Colchester County fire departments responded to their first grass fires this week.
The fire chief said the strong wind and dry conditions fanned the flames and allowed them to spread through the dry dead grass.

Meanwhile the Truro Fire Department was also called out to a very small grass fire near the train tracks at midnight Monday night.

Coca-Cola Donates Property for Birmingham (AL) Fire Station

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United donated nearly a quarter of an acre of land in Birmingham's Kingston neighborhood to help pave the way for a new and expanded fire station. The Birmingham City Council accepted the donation through the approval of a resolution on Tuesday.
Linda Sewell, director of community relations for Coca-Cola United, said the parcel at 4112 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. is part of approximately 88 acres the company owns along 10th Avenue North.

Killeen (TX) FD to Dedicate Fire Station

Killeen Fire Station No. 9 began operations Monday. The city will host a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday for the department's newest building. The station will service the southwest area of Killeen with fire and EMS response. Ii will also serve as a primary fire protection backup for West Fort Hood.
Ventilation systems for the safety and protection of personnel and energy efficiencies for reduced costs were implemented into the fire station’s design. Construction began in January 2016.

Killeen received a $4.44 million staffing for adequate fire and emergency response grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant will fund the new station’s personnel for nearly two years.
