Working Group to Examine Improvement Report for Central Fire Station in Midtown Kingston (NY)

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Mayor Steve Noble will appoint a working group to closely examine a report that concluded about $3.8 million of improvement work is needed at the Central Fire Station in Midtown.

The report, by Latham-based consulting firm C.T. Male Associates, outlined significant repairs said to be needed, as well as work to bring the Midtown building up to current standards. The firm then created a document that broke the initial report into high-, medium- and low-priority needs in the 110-year-old structure.

The high-priority work alone would cost less than everything suggested in the initial report, but still amount to nearly $2 million. That is more than half of C.T. Male’s total estimate of $3,796,868.

The C.T. Male reports came on the heels of one prepared by Peak Engineering that said reinforcements to the firehouse’s concrete floor, where fire trucks are parked, had deteriorated significantly.

Robbinsville (NJ) Fire Department Awarded $22K Federal Grant

Township firefighters will receive federal funding to update their medical equipment, U.S. Rep. Chris Smith recently announced. Smith said the Robbinsville Fire Department will be awarded a $22,740 grant from the Department of Homeland Security, through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.
Smith said in a statement the grant will be used to purchase four defibrillators and one CPR device. The money will cover about 95 percent of the total cost, replacing the township's current outdated equipment, he said.

In 2000, Smith helped create the AFG Program through his involvement with the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. Robbinsville received a grant of over $100,000 in 2015 through the program.
