Riviera Beach (FL) Firehouse Evacuated Ahead of Nicole

The Riviera Beach Fire Department has evacuated its firehouse 86 on Singer Island as Tropical Storm Nicole flood waters reach closer to the station.

The City of Riviera Beach warned residents of Singer Island that there would be no first responders available on the island, and urged people once again to evacuate.

Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall early Thursday morning as a category 1 hurricane, but quickly was downgraded to a tropical storm.

As of 7 a.m., Nicole was 30 miles southwest of Orlando and 55 miles east of Tampa.

Thieves Break into United Kingdom Fire Station, Steal Life-Saving Equipment

Thieves recently stole life-saving equipment from Southam Fire Station, WarwickshireWorld.com reported Thursday.

This has led to an appeal from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service for residents near its fire stations to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police, the report said.

The plea follows incidents over the past few months at fire stations in Southam, Henley-in-Arden and Bidford-on-Avon, according to the report.

Criminals are forcing their way in and targeting the most up-to-date life-saving rescue equipment, according to a fire official.

Dexter (MI) Voters OK Fire Station Bond Proposal

Dexter (MI) voters OK’d a sizeable bond proposal for an updated fire station, MLive.com reported.

City voters gave their stamp of approval to an $8.4-million bond proposal, payable over a period of up to 20 years, funding the renovation or replacement of the city’s 1950s-era fire station on Main Street, which officials say is functionally obsolete, the report said.

The measure comes with an estimated 2-mill property tax hike, equivalent to $2 on every $1,000 of taxable value, according to the report.

Seaside (OR) Backs Local Option Levy for Fire Department

A local option tax levy for fire equipment and personnel was approved by voters on Tuesday, according to a report in The Daily Astorian (OR).

The five-year levy — expected to generate $2.3 million — will provide fire apparatus, the purchase of a new training tower and a training and safety officer for the Seaside Fire Department, the report said.
