Tulsa (OK) International Airport Gets New Fire Engine

The Tulsa International Airport has a brand-new fire engine, Newson6.com reported.

The airport’s new truck is painted lime-yellow instead of the usual fire-engine red, because airport vehicles have to be more easily seen per FAA regulations.

The new model will replace the airport’s previous E-ONE Titan Truck from 1992.

Marquette (MI) Approves Buying Used Fire Truck

The Marquette City Commission on Monday unanimously approved the purchase of a used fire truck at a cost significantly less than the price of a new one, MiningJournal.net reported.

In past years, the Marquette Fire Department has used two 2004 Pierce Arrow XT fire trucks in daily operations, according to a background document from the city. However, within the last six months, both trucks were removed from service due to frame corrosion and cracking issues, the report said.

One new truck has been ordered, but the city will not receive it for at least 12 months, the report said. A used truck was purchased in June to replace the first pumper truck that had failed.

Staff recommended buying a second used pumper to minimize the hours put on the aging aerial truck until the new pumper truck is in service. Purchasing a second used truck also will push back the need for an additional new pumper for another five to seven years, according to the report.

The purchase price of the truck is not to exceed $48,000, the report said.

A city official said the price of a new truck is about $800,000, a price that is scheduled to increase 10 to 15 percent in the next few months and continue to rise, according to the report.

Video: San Diego (CA) Firefighters Use Aerial to Rescue Worker from Trench

San Diego firefighters responded to a construction site Wednesday to extricate an injured worker from a trench.

The male construction worker was in a 10-foot-deep trench at about 11 a.m. pumping water out when a piece of metal shoring came off and struck the man and injured him. The trench did not collapse, but the injuries made it impossible for him to extricate himself, 911 Video News reported.

Battalion Chief Tommy Charpentier said rescuers had to go into the trench, immobilize the victim and lift him out of the trench using the department’s aerial ladder.

The rescue took about one hour. The victim was transported to a local hospital and his status is not known at this time.

Two sure-foot safety platforms, which attach to roof ladders, were also bought with the money, according to the report.

More new equipment came by way of a private citizen, along with Elga Credit Union, Frankenmuth Credit Union, 100 Club, and the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce.
