Three Injured when Ambulance Rolls in Downtown Minneapolis Crash

Two paramedics and a driver were injured Wednesday night after a vehicle crashed into an Allina ambulance, causing the rig to roll in downtown Minneapolis.

Just after 8 p.m., police responded to the crash near East 14th Street and Portland Avenue, where a car had struck a moving ambulance. The ambulance was not on a service call at the time and did not have a patient on board, said Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder.

The rig rolled on impact and struck a minivan with three occupants, who were uninjured. The two paramedics were taken to Abbot Northwestern Hospital, and the person in the passenger vehicle was brought to Hennepin County Medical Center, said Allina spokesman Tim Burke. All three were released from the hospital later the same night.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but Elder said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Cordova (AL) Needs Funds to Finish Fire Station

The price tag of getting the city's new fire station operational is $90,000, Mayor Drew Gilbert announced at Tuesday night's Cordova City Council meeting.

The city has already spent $265,000 to renovate a former residence on School Street to suit the needs of Cordova Fire and Rescue. Bays were recently constructed on the site, but bay doors have not been purchased.

Completing phase one of the project will also require electrical work, purchasing heaters for temperature control in the bays, constructing a driveway from School Street to the bay apron and replacing the roof on the house.

Those five items topped the prioritized list of projects that Gilbert presented to the council.

Other items included adding a brick facade to the building, phone installation, construction of storage rooms inside the bays, purchasing equipment such as gear racks and a flammable liquid cabinet and adding a parking lot to the site.

Cost estimates for the complete list totaled $189,000.

"We are going to look at some local grant sources first. Then we'll pursue above that if necessary," Gilbert said.
