Fire Truck Hit by Semi on I-70 in MO

An area fire department reminds motorists to slow down and move over, after a close call Friday evening, KMZU.com reported.

Blackwater (MO) Fire Protection was at the 91-mile marker of I-70 conducting traffic control, according to their Facebook post, when a reserve pumper was hit by a semi.

Responders said the truck swerved to avoid collision but clipped the pumper truck with the rear axles of the trailer. The driver and assistant chief occupying the vehicle reported minor injuries.

Blackwater says this is now the second truck to be out of commission in its fleet, with another reportedly under repair. The department says it is securing mutual aid from other districts while searching for replacement equipment on loan.

Ground Breaking Scheduled for New Logan (WV) Fire Station Tuesday

The public is invited to a ground breaking ceremony for the new Logan City Fire Station, at 10 a.m. Tuesday October 11. Station 70 will be built at 200 North 100 East, across the street from the existing building, CacheValleyDaily.com reported.

A fire official said in addition to the traditional ground breaking activities, he’ll be presenting details about the new station that has been in the plans for years, the report said.

The station, which was originally built in 1974, has also been the headquarters for the department. So, in addition to more living quarters, the new building will also offer more office space and larger training areas that can be used for public gatherings, like the vaccine clinics that were done during the COVID pandemic, according to the report.

Plans for a new station have been ongoing for years. The designs started moving forward quickly, though, after the 2020 earthquake disabled two of Magna City’s fire stations, hindering their rescue efforts, the report said.
