Fire Truck Struck on I-91S in Windsor Locks (CT)

A crash involving a Windsor Locks Fire Department truck on I-91 South in Windsor Locks partially shut down the highway on Wednesday morning, wtnh.com reported.

State police said that just after 4 a.m., a parked and unoccupied fire truck was struck by another vehicle on the roadway near exit 40. The fire truck was on the scene for an unrelated incident when it was hit, police said.

Injuries were reported at the scene, and one person was transported to a local hospital, the report said.

Due to the collision, the right three lanes of the highway are shut down between exits 40 and 38A. Officials are asking that travelers in the area use extra caution and expect delays.

Price (UT) Gets New Fire Truck Over the Holidays

For the first time in 25 years, the Price City Fire Department has a new fire truck, KUER.org reported.

A fire official stressed the need for a new engine during a special city council meeting November 30. One of the department’s two trucks has been around for three decades and is currently out of commission, the report said.

While still in use, the other engine is 27 years old.

The city council approved the purchase of a $595,000 truck with 5,000 miles on it, the report said. The Rosenbauer model truck was shown to departments around the state and it was available for them to buy. The typical process to obtain a new truck could have taken up to four years and come with a $1 million price tag, according to the report.

The vendor also required the city to make a decision by December 1 or risk another fire department purchasing it, the report said.

Price City Fire is one of five fire departments in Carbon County and serves roughly 9,000 citizens. They also help other departments when needed.

Disneyland’s Iconic Fire Engine Appears in 2023 Rose Parade

An iconic Disneyland vehicle that frequently travels up and down Main Street U.S.A. made an appearance in the 2023 Pasadena Rose Parade Monday, PasadenaNow.com reported. The Disneyland fire engine can seen in the parade at the 1:56:55 mark of the video.

Disneyland Fire Engine No. 1, inspired by turn-of-the-early 20th century fire engines such as the 1907 Rambler and vintage LaFrance fire trucks, made its debut in 1958 as the last addition to the park’s classic vehicle fleet, the report said. It was designed by Bob Gurr, a legendary Imagineer with more than 100 plans for Disney attractions under his belt.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse were aboard the Disneyland Fire Engine when the vehicle rolled past parade-goers.

Walt Disney himself had a long connection with the Pasadena Rose Parade. His first entry dates back to January 1, 1938 with a float celebrating his newly released film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Shaker Heights (OH) Has New $1.1M Fire Engine Budgeted

One big ticket item in Shaker Heights’ 2023 Capital Fund budget will be a new $1.1 million fire engine to replace the one dating back to 2003 and subject to supply chain issues, including cost and delivery time, Cleveland.com reported.

Fire engines used to cost $700,000 and now they’re over $1 million, a Shaker Heights fire official noted in the report. Where it normally took eight months to have it built and delivered, we’re looking at up to three years, the report said.

Council ordered a new ambulance in 2021 and we still haven’t seen it, the fire official said in the report.

Delivery for the new engine might not be until 2026, another reason to lock in the current price, with council also approving another $410,000 replacement rescue squad in the 2023 capital budget and a $55,000 administrative SUV, according to the report.
