Osceola (FL) County Holds ‘Push Back’ Ceremony Dedicating New Fire Engine

Osceola County Fire Rescue and EMS officials were joined by Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington at Station 65 in Poinciana to hold a ceremony placing new Engine 65 into service.

Honoring the 19th-century traditions of the fire service with a “Push Back” ceremony, the crew washed and dried the new engine, pushing back the new apparatus into the station bay. This tradition dates to before the automobile, when horses used in the fire service could not easily back into the fire house with their wagon attached.

The new fire engine represents more than a half-million dollars invested in public safety. The new Sutphen Corporation Monarch will provide the community’s first responders with equipment that has increased reliability, added features and a lower cost of maintenance.

Wausau (WI) Fire Chief Expresses Need for New Fire Station

Back in 1962, Wausau (WI) Fire Department’s new station was considered the most modern in the nation, but now, it’s worn out and needs replacement, according to a report published by WSAW CBS7.

According to the report Wausau Fire Chief Robert Barteck, now is the time for the city to start thinking about replacing the facility which cost $340,000 60 years ago, but doesn’t serve the community’s needs any longer.

The fire department is responding to more than 7,000 calls annually, when it was only responding to about 1,000 when the station was built, the report says, adding that apparatus is bigger and it was built with no accommodations for female firefighters.

The chief told the television station that he plans to present building plans for a new station in August which could have a price tag of between $10 to $15 million.
