Hawaii Fire Department Puts New Donated Water Safety Craft in Service

Responders with the Ocean Safety Officers of the Hawaii Fire Department have two new Yamaha water safety craft for their use thanks to a large donation by the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation, according to a report published by West Hawaii Today.

Funding for the equipment, which includes two trailers and two tow boards, came from private donations in the form of $58,905 in private donations and a $28,700 grant from Hawaii County which also covers training, according to the report, which added the new water craft will go toward replacing four jet skis donated in 2015, only one of which remains in operation.

Foundation members are looking for additional funds to buy more water craft to protect the beaches around the island, the report says.

Wildland Fire Destroys New Hope (OK) Brush Truck

According to the report the fire chief and firefighter were members of the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department and they were fighting a fire in the neighboring community of Cement. A replacement truck will cost the department about $80,000 and the firefighters are seeking donations to cover the expense, the station reported.
