Plans for a new fire station for the Lebanon (OR) Fire Department were unveiled at a barbecue for staff and the public earlier this week, according to a report published by The New Era Lebanon Local.

Voters approved the $16 million 26-year bond to replace the 1975 station in 2019, but the COVID pandemic put the brakes on the project has prices for goods and services spiked, according to the report.

That caused city and fire department representative to reevaluate the project and look for ways to save money, according to the report, which said the second floor was removed in favor of a single-story structure which would save money.

Construction on the new station is expected to start in September and be completed in late 2023 or early 2024, according to the report.

The Ardmore (OK) Fire/Rescue Department has taken delivery of a new $540,000 fire truck that has been two years in the making, according to a report published by KTEN 10 ABC.

According to the report, the truck has a 1,000-gallon water tank and will help the department increase its firefighting capabilities.

The apparatus fully funded by the local sales tax, according to the report.

Firefighters with the Nolensville (TN) Fire and Rescue Department and town officials are working on designs for new facilities for the department, according to a report published by Williamson Home Page.

Up for debate is whether the town should build a larger station now and a smaller one 10 years from now or two smaller ones now, according to the report. Currently, town commissioners are favoring one larger, four-bay station now, the report says. Both options will cost about $16 million, the report said.

Among the consideration for deciding what kind of station and where it should be placed are items the department currently doesn’t have but needs and wants, the report said.

Those items include pull-through bays to reduce backing, storage for gear, gear cleaning room and decontamination areas, 10 bunk rooms, administration offices and space for health and safety needs, according to the report.  

The department is also looking to get a larger aerial so space will be needed for that as well, according to the report.

Town officials are expecting to make a decision on which course of action to take at a meeting on August 4, according to the report.

The final moments before a Kansas City (MO) fire truck crash that claimed the lives of three people were captured on video and KSHB41 News got the recordings through an open-records request.

The television station broadcasted the video on its new casts, pausing the recording moments before impact and resuming the video after the truck had crashed into three parked cars and a building, killing the two occupants in the vehicle and a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk at the time of the crash on Dec. 15. The incident involved the responding fire truck, an SUV, several parked cars and two pedestrians.

The videos show four different perspectives of the crash and will likely be central to lawsuits filed in the incident, according to the television station.

The lawsuits involve the driver alleging to fail to exercise care in traveling through the intersection, according to the news report and another claims the city was negligent in its maintenance of the intersection.

One of the factors the videos highlight are the lights at the intersection and the videos show the fire truck, with lights and sirens activated traveling north on Broadway Boulevard with the light red for 17 seconds before the impact in the middle of the intersection with the SUV that was traveling west on Westport Road with what appears to be a green light.

The television station said it contacted the victims’ attorneys before airing the video and tried to contact city officials who declined to comment.

KSHB41 reported that the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was contacted about the investigation into the Kansas City Police Department’s report about the crash and was told the matter was still under review.
