Video: Second Graders Push In Ucon (ID) Fire Department’s Engine

The Ucon Fire Department recently took delivery of a 2004 E-ONE engine and had Ucon Elementary second graders help pushing it into the station, reports localnews8.com.

The engine has a 750-gallon pumper and was previously used in Cottleville (MO), the report says. The department purchased it a few months back via wildland funds.

The apparatus gives the department greater pumping ability, and it also includes extrication tools and rescue equipment that the department never had before, the report notes.

Paragould (AR) Fire Crews Prepare for the Worst

Paragould fire crews are making sure they’re prepared in case of a mass-casualty incident, to the tune of the department’s new truck being outfitted with bullet-proof vests and hard hats, reports kait8.com.

Fire officials say the new equipment will allow them to better assist in emergencies since they don’t have weapons. They’ll be able to enter a situation much sooner, the report notes.

The new apparatus also holds multiple first aid kits with trauma dressings, the report says.

West Fargo (ND) Fire Department Breaks Ground on $18.5M Station

Following Wednesday’s ground-breaking ceremony, the new West Fargo Fire Department headquarters is set to be complete in fall 2023.

The total cost of the project is $18.5 million, and it will be funded through capital improvement sales tax, cash reserves, and a $10 million bond. The new, modern fire station will allow the department to add additional staff and fire apparatus to respond to the over 300% increase in calls for service since 2017. It will further the City of West Fargo’s goals of reaching an Insurance Services Office rating of class one, which helps reduce the cost of property insurance for residents and businesses.

The new station will feature a public component with a training room, lobby, and education center. This will serve as both administrative space and increase capacity for community risk reduction programs, outreach, and engagement.

The addition of a hose-drying tower and training tower will allow crews to practice life-saving skills such as rappelling, ladder training, hose advancement drills, and more. As the fire station is near a residential area, a segmented fence will provide a buffer from the lights and equipment in use.

New Headquarters Site: 1201 10th Ave. E.
