Cochise County (AZ) Approves Purchase of $2.2M Dispatch Technology

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors recently approved the use of $2,240,000 in ARPA funds to purchase new 911 dispatch technology, reports kold.com.

The Fire Station Alerting System project—proposed by Sierra Vista Fire and Medical Services and Fry Fire District—includes software installation and technology upgrades for all 34 fire stations within Cochise County, the report says.

The system aims to improve 911 response times by 30 to 90 seconds. The current systems necessitates putting the caller on hold, according to the report.

It’s estimated that the new system will be ready to go in six to eight months.

Greensburg (PA) Volunteer Fire Department to Buy $779k Pumper

The Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will soon have a new fire truck in its fleet, as council recently voted to purchase a $779,114 pumper, reports triblive.com.

The apparatus, a Seagrave model TB50CT Marauder, will replace a 25-year-old truck at Hose Co. No. 6, the report notes.

The pumper has a lower bed in the back, a quieter cab, and a 1,500-gallons-per-minute pump. It should arrive in 18 months and will be paid for via funds from a nearly $1.1 million loan, which was finalized in February.

See Morgan County (AL) Rescue Squad Pull Truck Stranded in Flood Waters

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 911 that two people were stranded on top of a vehicle after their vehicle was swept from rising flood waters on County Road 593 south of Courtland. Deputies arrived with Volunteer Firefighters and were able to communicate with the two gentlemen who were sitting on the hood of a pickup truck.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad was called to conduct the water rescue. Crews put a trained swift water rescue diver in the water and were able to stabilize the vehicle with a tow line. The rescue squad was able to assist the men to safety; the vehicle was able to be removed from the water by the towing company.

“Moving water is a very powerful force and with all the rain we have had recently it does not take much to flood a roadway,” the sheriff’s office writes on Facebook.
