One crash Monday night led to another accident that sent a Calgary firefighter to the hospital, reports CTV News.

A car drove into a ditch due to icy conditions in northeast Calgary at Stoney Trail and Country Hills Blvd. N.E. at 7:56 p.m., the report says.

Calgary first responders arrived three minutes later to assist, but a semi hit the parked apparatus, according to the report.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition, though there was no word as to the condition of the driver of the vehicle.

Wickenburg town council has approved taking out a $2.3 million loan to fund a new fire station and construction will begin later this month, reports wickenburgsun.com.

The loan will come from National Bank (Zions Bancorporation), and the station will be built near Wickenburg Ranch, the report says.

The council also contracted Willmeng Construction, Inc. to begin the $4.9 million project, which was partially funded from the Town’s Capital Improvement Project account, according to the report.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the new facility is tentatively set for mid-to-late March, officials say.

The project is expected to take 12 months.

Anson voters Saturday approved the purchase of a new fire truck and rescue boat, as well as the hiring of two full-time firefighters, reports centralmaine.com.

The truck will cost $717,000 and will be purchased with funds in the department’s capital reserve fund, American Recovery Plan Act money, and a bond, according to the report.

Up to $28,000 for the aquatic apparatus will come from tax-acquired property revenue and fundraising, while $84,000 for the two firefighter positions will come via ARPA money, taxation, and fire reserve funds, the report says.

The purchases are not expected to increase the town’s property tax rate of $20.75 per $1,000 of assessed value.
