New Deal (TX) Fire & EMS Apparatus Destroyed in Station Fire; ‘Could Have Been Much Worse’

New Deal (TX) Fire & EMS had one of its apparatus catch fire at the station around 9 a.m. Friday morning, and officials say Rescue 2 is a total loss.

“Fire was limited to the Cab portion of Rescue 2 and Minor damage to some insulation on the station. This could have been much worse,” the department says on Facebook.

The department says all of Rescue 2’s equipment has been moved to Engine 2, and the department’s response times won’t be affected.

“We have had offers for assistance from so many other departments as well as offers from Supporters of our department.”

Harrison Township (OH) Fire and EMS Apparatus Involved in Crash

Two OH firefighters avoided injury early Saturday morning when their apparatus was involved in a crash tied to a drunk driver, reports sciotovalleyguardian.com.

Around 1:15 a.m. Saturday in Londonderry, Harrison Township Fire and EMS crews were responding to a separate crash on Route 50 at Vigo Road, the report says. The engine then collided with a Buick near the scene; no injuries were reported in either accident.

The rear wheels of the fire apparatus were off the pavement when tow crews arrived, the report says, and the driver of the Buick was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Fire officials say the truck will be out-of-service for an extended period of time, but the department has a backup engine that can step in.

The woman in the first crash was given a sobriety test after police officials say she slammed her SUV into a concrete barrier. She was taken to county jail for further testing and charged with driving under the influence, according to the report.

Lompoc (CA) Fire Department Installs $100k Toxin-Reducing System at Both Stations

The Lompoc (CA) Fire Department has installed a new $100,000 system that aims to remove dangerous toxins from the bays at both of its fire stations, reports keyt.com.

The way it works is pipes connect magnetically to the bay and funnel the fumes through a filter system to push them out through the roof, the report says. The pipes attach whenever an engine is running in the bay, officials say.

The system was paid for by the city’s general fund.
