Technical rescue team saves climber who fell 25 feet at Beacon Rock in Skamania County

The Washington state Region 4 technical rescue team saved a rock climber who fell off a rock wall and suffered a traumatic injury at Beacon Rock State Park on Thursday, according to the Vancouver Fire Department. “This was a really tough one. This was a once in a career rescue effort. This is why we spend hundreds of hours training for an event like this.

Seattle 911 Center handles emergency calls in a new way

VIDEO: The City of Seattle is now responding to 911 calls in a new way since the CARE department took over operations last October. In addition to police and fire crews, the center can now dispatch community crisis responders, who are behavioral health specialists. Last year, the 911 center saw more than 880,000 calls, which is the highest number it has seen in at least the past five years.

Update: Deadly house fire, explosion in northwest Spokane intentionally set

PHOTOS: The deadly house fire that turned into an explosion in northwest Spokane last week was intentionally started, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) confirmed. According to SFD, a man lit a fire in the garage after a fight with his roommates. The man went to the bathroom, where firefighters found him dead.

Walla Walla County Fire District 4 approves levy lid lift for Aug. 6 election ballots

In a unanimous vote from the Board of Fire Commissioners for Walla Walla County Fire District 4, a fire levy lid lift will be placed on the Aug. 6, 2024 primary election ballot, per a press release. WWFD4 says revenue from the district's current fire levy is not enough to keep up with service costs, noting that daily costs increase about four to five percent each year while laws limit the district to a one percent revenue increase per year.

Four West Virginia volunteer firefighters hospitalized after fire truck crash, community unites

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Four Green Valley Volunteer firefighters were hospitalized after a fire truck crashed in rural Wayne County Wednesday. One was transported in a helicopter and three others by ambulance. "Good to see you. I appreciate you," a Green Valley Volunteer Firefighter said to a Huntington Fire Department captain.
