First-responders to carry emergency contraception under new protocols in Michigan

Michigan will be leading the country with new first-responder protocols involving sexual assault victims. Governor Whitmer announced emergency responders will now be provided the opportunity to carry emergency contraception and post-exposure prophylaxis for sexually transmitted infections. The plan announced Wednesday, will also provide EMS responders with sexual assault training.

2 Kansas volunteer firefighters to appear on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’

Two volunteer Kansas firefighters are set to appear on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Friday to encourage more people across the nation to take up firefighting. The Riley County Fire District #1 announced on Nov. 3 two of its volunteers, Roger and Kim Davis, will be featured on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Longview fire destroys garage and car, family safe

Longview Fire Department responded to a residential fire shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The fire was reported by the homeowner, who saw smoke and flames from the detached garage behind their home. Four Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, two Battalion Chiefs, and a Medic Unit responded to the location on the intersection of Florida Street and 30th Avenue.

Accidental fire forces Walla Walla apartment building to evacuate

Firefighters investigate that an accidental fire, which they suspect began on a stovetop, caused roughly $100,000 worth of damages and forced a highly populated apartment building to evacuate on Tuesday night. According to the Walla Walla Fire Department, crews from Fire Stations 1 and 2 were sent to the apartments at 10 S Clinton St for reports of heavy, black smoke stemming from a second-story apartment around 6:31 p.
