New details in the arrest of a Forest Service burn boss during a prescribed burn in Grant County last month are raising the possibility that the sheriff who arrested him could in turn be subject to prosecution.
On Oct. 19 a prescribed burn being executed by the U.S. Forest Service, with help from Oregon Department of Forestry and contract crews, escaped the burn area, scorching approximately 18 acres of adjacent private land in Bear Valley, about 7 miles north of Seneca.

Puget Sound Fire responded to multiple fires on Thursday morning.
In the East Hill area around 4:26 a.m., two subjects broke a car window and "threw burning materials into it," Puget Sound Fire (PSF) tweeted. The car fire was extinguished before spreading to the nearby building, PSF said, and crews searched the trunk.

Firefighters in Thurston County are on the verge of being laid off, and at least two fire stations could close in the coming weeks now that a property levy on the November ballot appears headed for defeat.
The measure requires a supermajority of 60% plus one for passage, and the vote is split across two districts served by the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority.
