The City of Seattle will end its COVID-19 emergency proclamation at the end of October. Mayor Bruce Harrell said in a statement Tuesday that Seattle will lift its remaining COVID emergency order to align with Gov. Jay Inslee’s decision to end the statewide state of emergency on Oct. 31. Harrell said while the impacts of the pandemic continue to be felt, it is thanks to Seattle’s strong response including its high vaccination rate and strong health care system that the city can continue moving toward recovery and revitalization.

A wildfire that started in late August near the Kalama Horse Camp Campground, north of Cougar, has grown to 461 acres, but safety officials lowered evacuation orders Tuesday, said U.S Forest Service spokesperson Gala Miller. The blaze is 9% contained, but evacuation orders have been reduced to level 1 from the headwaters of the South Fork of the Toutle River to south of Merrill Lake, and from the Skamania/Cowlitz County Border west 5 miles into Cowlitz County.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Pennsylvania American Water announced Monday that it has awarded $71,000 in grants to 142 fire and rescue organizations across the commonwealth through its annual Firefighting Support Grant Program. The announcement coincides with Fire Prevention Week, which is the longest running US public health observance on record. Since launching the grant program in 2009, Pennsylvania American Water has donated more than $850,000 to help hundreds of fire departments and emergency service organizations across the commonwealth.

The Silverthorne Town Council will hear from local fire leaders about possibly adding a fire station in town in response to growing calls from the public about safety concerns, SummitDaily.com reported.

On Wednesday, October 12, at 6 p.m., Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at Town Hall, 601 Center Circle. During that meeting, fire officials are scheduled to give an update on Insurance Services Office ratings and planning for the town’s fire station, the report said.

Currently, emergency services calls made in Silverthorne and north of town are responded to by firefighters and EMTs at the fire station in Dillon, the report said. Summit Fire & EMS operates four fully-staffed stations located in Dillon, Keystone, Frisco and Copper Mountain. 

At a meeting last month, some Silverthorne community members expressed concerns during public comment about the response times of emergency services, especially during times of traffic congestion near Interstate 70, the report said. 

At that meeting, Town Council members expressed that having a fire station within town limits is still a high priority, according to the report.
