Kentucky firefighter recounts dramatic rescue of military veteran from dangling semi-truck

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A firefighter in Kentucky is receiving a lot of deserved attention after his remarkable act of bravery. Bryce Carden was one of the heroes that saved a woman from a cab, attached to a tractor-trailer, that was dangling over a bridge and above the Ohio River. The Louisville firefighter went over the Clark Memorial Bridge to bring the driver to safety.

Program 'recycles' excess federal equipment to help volunteer firefighters in Nebraska

VIDEO: Massive military transport vehicles are being refitted to fight wildfires and perform rescues during floods. Excess equipment the federal government no longer needs is now being put to use by volunteer fire departments to save lives and property. It's all possible because of a little-known, but heavily used program through the Nebraska Forest Service.

Big fire guts Yakima apartment building, leaves 50-60 homeless

PHOTOS: Firefighters in Yakima battled a fire in the Buckingham Apartments at 211 South Naches Avenue reported at about 5:35 a.m. Monday. According to Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham, 50 to 60 residents were forced out of the building and are now being helped by the American Red Cross. Markham says when firefighters first arrived, residents were outside with flames coming from the third floor windows.

SWAT standoff in West Central Spokane after reports of structure fire

A SWAT standoff at the Sans Souci retirement community at 3231 W. Boone Avenue is over after several hours. On Sunday afternoon, SWAT and Spokane Police responded to a reported fire at the San Souci retirement community. SPD said a man and a woman were inside of a trailer, when the man started a fire inside.

City of Chehalis awards contract for engineering and architectural services for new fire station design

Originally constructed in 1925, the Chehalis Fire Department’s old fire station has long been in need of replacement. After sharing headquarters with Lewis County Fire District 6 in 2019 before moving to another temporary location on Northwest Sitka Street, the department is still forced to operate out of construction trailers and temporary apparatus bays.
