Meet the neighborhood heroes: Pasco Fire Department opens door of new milestone station

PHOTOS/VIDEO: The Pasco Fire Department has put their newest station into operation. Station 85 is located on Road 100. The City of Pasco says it's a milestone in extending coverage to neighborhoods south of Interstate 182, and will help cut down on emergency response times. Ben Shearer, Public Information Officer for the Pasco Fire Department, tells us, "Not only does it help their insurance rates, having a fire station closer, but really, it keeps us going on that city council goal of a six minute response time.

Seattle needs greater authority to tear down abandoned buildings, fire chief says

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Seattle Fire Department Chief Harold Scoggins believes the city needs to take a harder line on abandoned buildings, perhaps increasing the ability to tear down structures at risk of fire. He told the Seattle City Council’s public safety committee that his department has already responded to 22 vacant building fires this year, including the latest on Rainier Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord takes unique approach to rehabilitating areas affected by wildfires

After wildfires burned through an impact area at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during the 2023 fire season, the base’s Integrated Training Area Management team enlisted the help of the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade’s “Bigfoot” Company to help restore the area from the skies. JBLM is affected in some way by wildfires nearly every year, and 2023 was no different.

Snohomish County launches new tool to evaluate vulnerability to climate change, impacts to local communities

Snohomish County is launching a new tool to evaluate local communities’ vulnerability to climate change impacts. The Climate Vulnerability Tool (CVT) is accompanied by a new resource hub – Snohomish County Prepares for a Changing Climate – that houses the CVT and aggregates existing climate change plans, policies, and programs for Snohomish County residents and businesses, the county said in a news release.

VIDEO: Texas home destroyed by massive fire

An unoccupied home on the city’s Southwest Side was destroyed by a fire late Tuesday night, according to the San Antonio Fire Department. The fire was called in around 10:50 p.m. at a home in the 260 block of Briggs Avenue, not far from New Laredo Highway and Southwest Military Drive. Firefighters said when they arrived, they found a single-story home fully engulfed in flames.
