Mount Desert (ME) Fire Department Orders $955,801 Rescue/Pumper Apparatus

The Mount Desert (ME) Fire Department recently signed a contract to purchase a $955,801 combination rescue/pumper apparatus, according to a report published by Mount Desert Islander.

According to the report the company chosen to build the apparatus offered a $42,000 discount if the town would agree to close on the sale by the end of the week, a condition the town’s officials were prepared to complete.

Funding for the new truck will be taken from the fire equipment reserve account according to the report that also said the new rig, described at the MVP Rescue Pumper will have an immense capacity for carrying equipment.

Gloversville (NY) $500K Fire Truck Undamaged After Theft/Joyride

A half million-dollar fire truck was undamaged after a 30-year-old local man allegedly took a Gloversville (NY) Fire Department on a joyride earlier this week, according to a report published by News 10 ABC.

According to the report, the fire truck was stolen from in front of the fire station at about 6 am on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and the man who allegedly took it drove it into a nearby parking lot at City Hall.

Firefighters and police officers apprehended the man, Steve Horton of Gloversville and he was taken into custody after a brief struggle, according to the report. The suspect, who had lead police on a car chase on September 9, was charged with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest in connection with the fire truck incident, according to the report which added he was remanded to jail on $15,000 cash bail.

VIDEO: Louisiana fire department investigates fire that destroyed historic downtown building

PHOTOS: A fire Wednesday evening that destroyed a vacant, historic building in downtown Shreveport is under investigation, Fire Chief Clarence Reece said Thursday morning. “Anytime a building catches on fire after it's been standing for a while, it’s always going to be suspicious in nature. But again, we are doing our due diligence in investigating that,” Reece said.

Blind boy 'sees' firefighters for the first time with hands-on visit at Florida fire station

VIDEO: Most kids can instantly recognize a firefighter by their uniform, but it's different for a child who is blind. That all changed for 6-year-old Junie during a recent trip to Plant City Fire Rescue's Station #3 with fellow homeschool students. The group got the chance to tour the station and explore the fire trucks.
