PHOTOS: First responders from across Brazos County gathered early Sunday morning outside the Stella Hotel in Bryan. The group of firefighters, police officers, and paramedics paused to pay tribute to their brothers and sisters that made the ultimate sacrifice 21 years ago today.
First responders, many in full gear climbed the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs as a tribute to the heroes who died at Ground Zero on 9/11.

VIDEO: Oklahoma State University christened its first new fire truck in almost a century on Sunday.
The school’s Fire Service Training program plans to use it to train a new generation of firefighters. The ceremony happening on September 11th was pure coincidence, meant to coincide with the start of its biannual academy, but the program’s directors believe in its significance.

VIDEO: An old hospital is getting new life while helping retain and recruit firefighters.
The Vermont Fire Academy is based in Pittsford which can be up to two hours away from many fire departments across the state. The distance has made it difficult for firefighters to get the necessary training and hard to incentivize them to attend optional ones.

Sunday marks 21 years since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, taking nearly 3,000 lives.
Firefighters and law enforcement officers in Seattle paid their respects by raising the U.S. flag atop the Space Needle. "On this day every year, we remember not only their sacrifice, but the dedication of all people – SPD officers included – who put the needs and lives of the public before their own, every day, while on the job," wrote the Seattle Police Department in a Facebook post.
