Hidrent, a marketplace that helps firefighters supplement their incomes during their off-duty days, is excited to announce that they have recently formed a business partnership with Callbox Storage. After connecting off-duty firefighters with homeowners for small tasks over the last 1½ years, Hidrent is now testing out the B2B market offering firefighters even more opportunities with steadier hours.

The pilot test with Callbox Storage took place in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, and involved help with the build-out of luxury apartments. The scope of work included: moving furniture, unboxing and building furniture (beds, chairs, tables, coffee tables, entertainment stands and desks), hanging TV’s, artwork, curtains, and mirrors and stocking kitchens.

All firefighters that participated in the test responded that they would accept the opportunity to do it again. One firefighter took the hours to help pay for classes and save for paramedic school.  nother was funding his son’s upcoming birthday. The company plans to establish more strategic partnerships with businesses throughout the foreseeable future to meet the varying needs of firefighters during their off-duty time.

Engine 451 began service with the University Park (TX) Fire Department in the spring of 2017. The cab/chassis is the Cyclone II (extra long) model. Cab seating for 4 is provided along with a medical cabinet installed on the rear cab wall and three cabinets mounted on the upper forward vista in front of the crew doors. These cabinets are the width and height of the vista. Both cab and body are constructed of 3/16” extruded aluminum, and ROM roll-up doors are part of the body package. SCBA bottle storage is located in compartments adjacent to the rear wheel wells (2 per side) along with a rear compartment that holds additional bottles. 

Power is provided by a 455-hp Cummins ISX15 engine and an Allison EVS 4000 5-speed transmission with pushbutton shifter. A Harrison 8-kW hydraulic generator is located in a dunnage pan offset on the officer’s side. 

The apparatus has a Hale Qmax 1,750-gpm single-stage pump (mid-ship) and a UPF Poly III 750-gallon “R” shaped tank. Foam is provided by a Hale 3.3 FoamLogix with a 30-gallon foam cell and a Waterous 200-P Platinum CAFS. Foam is plumbed to the front jump line and the crosslays. A 1¾” inch jump line with 150’ of hose is located in the front bumper tray. The crosslays consist of 250’ of 1¾” hose (125’ each). The hosebed carries 900’ of 5-inch LDH hose, 300’ of 3-inch hose and 250’ of 2½” hose. ALCO-LITE ladders (24’ two-section, 14’ roof, and 10’ folding) and pike poles are stored in a compartment on the right rear of the body. The hose body also has 4 rescue-style compartments (2 per side) on top.

The warning lights include a Whelen Freedom IV 72” light bar (Model F4X7) centered on the front cab roof and two Whelen 21.5” Mini-Freedom light bars mounted over the front cab doors. Whelen M6RC Super LED lights adorn the lower perimeter of the cab and body with Whelen M9RC lights on the upper level of the cab and body. A Federal XT LED Signal Master (Model 320862) light bar mounted on the rear body provides directional warning.

In his new role, he will be responsible for sales growth and servicing the Elkhart Brass, FoamPro, FRC and ROM customers in the Mid-Atlantic territory which includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

He is also a United States Navy Veteran who specialized in shipboard and aircraft firefighting.

The bond issue on the ballot for Shreveport voters in November includes $16 million for equipment replacement, reports KEEL

There is also money in the bond issue to replace 3 current fire stations. Station 11 on Youree Drive would be rebuilt at a cost of $3 million. New stations will also be built to replace station 14 on Greenwood Road and station 15 on West 70th. Each of the new stations would cost $3 million.

There is also $1.4 million for fire station renovations & maintenance.

The Akron Fire Department will host open house events for its two new fire stations, reports cleveland.com.

The open houses will offer hands-only CPR demonstrations, sign-ups for free smoke detectors and light refreshments.

The new fire stations are the first to be rebuilt using funds from Issue 4, which passed in 2017. The voter-approved city income tax increase raised taxes from 2.25% to 2.5%.
