The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) has announced that firefighter Dan Patterson has passed away. Patterson suffered a cardiac arrest on July 21, 2022, after going off shift, according to SVFD. "It is with heartfelt sadness that I share the news of Dan's passing," said SVFD Fire Chief, Frank Soto Jr.

Work is starting soon on a large regional fire and police training facility near Stanwood. When complete, a portion of the 33-acre site will be home to classrooms, prop buildings and a variety of street layouts for training. The facility is aimed at filling a regionwide need for space to train and is expected to attract myriad public safety personnel from across the Northwest all year long, possibly generating money for North County Regional Fire Authority.

A Lynnwood family is without a home tonight after losing everything in a weekend fire. Neighbors describe the scene near Larch Way and 208th Place as “chaotic.” They describe ammunition going off and two Teslas exploding in the driveway. The noise caused next-door neighbor Mark Nguyen to race outside.

Police have arrested a suspect they say has had firefighters taking down blazes in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood for hours Monday night. The Seattle Fire Department confirmed it is investigating four fires set outside private homes in the neighborhood in the evening hours, starting around 7 p.m. The fires were all in the 600 block of 37th Avenue, 500 block of 31st Avenue and in the 500th block of 30th avenue.

The Cow Canyon Fire in Yakima County is still burning almost 6,000 acres. Evacuation orders dropped to level one Sunday. Some residents living at a trailer park near N. Wenas Rd. said if they don't see flames, they shouldn't have to leave. 23 residents at Stagecoach RV Park were among the first told to evacuate.
