The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) is preparing for the upcoming wildfire season by using a new map that will show active and recent wildfires in the western United States.
SFD hopes to use a map from the Western Fire Chiefs Association (WCFA) as a resource during wildfire season. Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer wants to use the map as a way to fight fires more efficiently and keep people safe.

Data from space will be used to help keep drinking water clean in the Pacific Northwest, under a Washington State University-led project that recently received a $1 million NASA grant.
The effort answers a call from coastal utilities that rely on water sources in forested watersheds, which historically have burned once every 100 to 200 years.

Four adults escaped a home that caught fire early Monday in Bremerton.
According to Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, the fire began burning around 3:51 a.m. in the 3300 block of Quinault Drive.
When fire crews arrived at the two-story, split-level home, all occupants were outside without any injuries.

State troopers are investigating after they said a driver died in a vehicle vs. building collision.
Just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, state troopers responded to a fatal collision in Mabton.
Officials said the driver was traveling southbound on SR 241 at Washington St, left the roadway and crashed into an abandoned building in the 200 block of B St.
