VIDEO: East Pierce County Fire crews saved a dog that was trapped on the ice on Lake Tapps just before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Callers to 911 reported seeing the dog fall through the ice twice near the 20400 block of Church Lake Drive East in Bonney Lake.
The dog had managed to pull himself out both times, but would not come back to shore.

According to the National Fire Protection Agency, fire stations across the nation are seeing an increase in calls each year.
According to Franklin County Fire District #3 Fire Chief Mike Harris, 2023 saw a 10% increase in calls with 882 calls reported.
According to Harris, a fire station of their size would typically see between one and two calls a day, but are now seeing an average of 2.

Quick-thinking neighbors and a Clallam County Fire District 3 first responder helped rescue a teen from the water after he fell through ice in a Diamond Point lagoon.
Battalion Chief Stef Anderson reported that witnesses called 9-1-1 around 10:36 a.m. Monday, saying someone fell into the ice and was “thrashing” around.

Emergency services in Kansas City rendered aid to 69 people, many for “hypothermia symptoms,” during the Chiefs’ Super Wild Card playoff win over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, a fire department chief told CNN.
Conditions at Arrowhead Stadium during the Chiefs’ 26-7 win were tough for players and coaches to deal with, as well as fans: the temperature at kickoff was -4 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -20 degrees, making it the fourth coldest game in National Football League history, CNN has reported.
