PHOTOS: I admit that I didn't remember, but my friend Lois Seymour did, that it was the 30th anniversary of a monstrous fire that broke out on May 3, 1991, at Madison's Central Storage & Warehouse Co.. It was later proclaimed to have been Madison's biggest fire ever by fire department officials.
The fire at the huge food storage facility on Cottage Grove Road and Highway 51/151 in east Madison was later attributed to a forklift battery malfunction.

The toughest two minutes in sports will be hosted in Martin County this weekend.
The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a grueling course that requires strength and endurance and showcases skills that firefighters use every day.
The free-to-attend contest will be held Saturday and Sunday at Stuart Beach and is a regional qualifying event for the national competition scheduled to take place in Fort Pierce in September.

Birmingham Stallions linebacker Scooby Wright III has been one of the breakout stars of the inaugural United States Football League season.
Through four games, the Stallions are undefeated. Wright has recorded 32 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defended to help Birmingham. Wright was the Stallions’ first selection in the inside linebackers portion of the USFL Draft in February.

Pierce County firefighters helped a man Wednesday afternoon who was stuck in a tree about 100 feet in the air over a golf course.
Hallie McCurdy, Deputy Chief with Pierce Co. Fire and Rescue, told KOMO News the man was a parachutist who had gotten stuck in a tree at American Lake Veterans Golf Course.
