Former Pennsylvania Fire Captain Sentenced In Fatal Shooting Of Junior Firefighter

A former Fayette County fire captain was sentenced to jail Friday for the shooting death of a junior firefighter. State police say the 16-year-old junior firefighter, Parker Hess, and 21-year-old fire captain George Matis, Jr., were working inside the small business office of the Republic Volunteer Fire Department last November when Matis’s gun discharged.

California Fire Dept. SUV, ambulance, car all collide in intersection

PHOTO - Two emergency response vehicles collided with a car at Florida Street and Sonoma Boulevard on Saturday morning, sending the first-responders on board to the hospital and closing the intersection for an investigation, a spokesperson for the fire department said. At approximately 9:48 a.m., an ambulance and a fire department Ford Explorer both responding to different “code 3” emergencies with lights and sirens flashing collided and also hit a Nissan Altima, the spokesperson said.

‘It was a horror show’: Mass shooting leaves at least 58 dead, 515 wounded on Las Vegas Strip

A gunman opened fire on an outdoor country music concert from a Mandalay Bay hotel room late Sunday, killing at least 58 people, injuring more than 500 and sending the Las Vegas Strip into chaos. The massacre is the deadliest mass shooting in United States history. As officers entered the 32nd-floor room of the suspect, 64-year-old Mesquite resident Stephen Paddock, he shot and killed himself, police said early Monday.

'America Burning' Report Commissioner Amabili Dies

One of the foremost authorities on fire prevention, and the author of the "America Burning" Report passed away Thursday. Louis J. Amabili, 88, began his fire service career when he joined the Hockessin, DE, Fire Company in 1947. In 1970, President Richard Nixon appointed Amabili to to serve on the National Commission for Fire Prevention and Control.
