Fired Rhode Island firefighter testifies he’s victim of retaliation

A fired East Greenwich firefighter testified Wednesday that he learned of his termination during an emotional late-night call from his brother. James Perry said he was in bed when his brother, William Perry, called his cellphone around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. “He said, ‘I got an email you were terminated tonight,’” James Perry said.

California county fire union backs opposition to public safety tax

San Bernardino County Fire’s union has put undisclosed sums of money into the campaign opposing the city’s proposed half-cent sales tax for public safety, the Daily Press has learned. The contribution by Professional Firefighters Union, Local 935 — confirmed recently by the organization’s president and by the taxpayer group leading the anti-effort — forges a potentially awkward dynamic moving forward since the union represents one of two reported agency benefactors of the November ballot measure.

Family plans to sue FDNY for refusing to acknowledge that firefighter died in line of duty in 1935

Eight decades after a New York City firefighter's death, his family says the Fire Department needs to finally acknowledge his sacrifice — and they're ready to take their case to court. Firefighter Thomas O'Brien responded to a two-alarm blaze on W. 26th St. in October 1935. He returned to Engine Company 3, and was found dead in his bed at the W.

Smoke Alarms Installed by Missouri Firefighters Help Residents Escape Fire

Several escaped a burning apartment home Thursday morning, just three months after Springfield firefighters installed smoke alarms in the structure.  The smoke alarms sounded, notifying residents in two first-floor apartment of a fire that engulfed the second floor apartment Thursday morning. During a safety canvass in June, firefighters installed a new smoke alarm and replaced a dead battery in another alarm in that building.

One dead in crash involving Kentucky fire truck; 4 firefighters injured

PHOTOS - One person is dead in a crash involving a car and a Louisville Fire & Rescue fire truck. The crash happened on Algonquin Parkway near McCloskey Avenue about 8:45 a.m. Thursday. Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell says the fire truck was headed to an emergency with lights and sirens, when it collided with a green car.
