RV fire under West Seattle Bridge raises safety concerns in wake of Atlanta freeway collapse

Nobody was hurt after a fire at a homeless RV camp underneath the West Seattle Bridge, but it has raised concerns in the wake of the recent I-85 bridge collapse in Atlanta. A witness showed Q13 News video of the fire which showed flames high enough to reach the bridge for about 20 minutes. Firefighters arrived, put out the fire and made sure nobody was injured.

Centralia Woman Pleads Guilty to Setting Fires at Apartment Complex

A Centralia woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to setting fires in November at an apartment complex she managed in an alleged attempt to get a resident to move. Kathrin Turner, 44, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree arson. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 10. Turner’s attorney, David Arcuri, and Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Will Halstead plan to ask a judge on that date to impose a 21-month prison sentence.

Kennewick firefighter graduates state acdemy

Nathan Miller is slated to graduate the Washington State Fire Training Academy on behalf of the Kennewick Fire Department. He is one of 26 firefighters graduating on April 21 in Snoqualmie, according to Kelly Merz, acting chief deputy state fire marshal. The 12-week program provides education for firefighters to meet National Fire Protection Association standards, Firefighter Professional Qualifications, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Levels requirements.

Cigarette causes Skyway house fire, investigators say

Investigators believe a discarded cigarette left in a plastic trash bin led to a house fire in Skyway on Wednesday morning. At one point, Chopper 7 spotted flames shooting out of the roof of the home on South 126th Street, near the Skyway post office and library. Firefighters attacked the fire aggressively because they were not sure if anyone was trapped inside.

Voters to decide if two Snohomish County fire districts dissolve

Snohomish County fire districts 14 and 18 will have a measure on a special-election ballot April 25. Voters will be asked to decide if the districts should dissolve. District 14 includes Stanwood and the surrounding unincorporated area. District 18 includes the unincorporated area north of Arlington.
