VIDEO: On June 2, 1983, 23 passengers died in a fire onboard Air Canada Flight 797. The flight was coming from Dallas, Texas, and heading to Toronto, Canada, when the cabin crew discovered smoke in a rear lavatory. According to the aircraft accident report, the crew attempted to extinguish the hidden fire before contacting air traffic control and declaring an emergency.

A shop fire, combined with multiple propane tank explosions, sent heavy black smoke into the Vancouver sky on Thursday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., multiple fire agencies were dispatched to 8503 NE 80th Ave, after receiving numerous reports of dark smoke in the area. Crews discovered a fire in a large shop that was also torching several trees.

Despite providing rescue services in south Puget Sound for almost 40 years, the white 32-foot fire boat, built in 1985, looks far less powerful than its sleek aluminum 43-foot replacement poised at the end of the dock.

The Tri-Cities is growing quickly and part of the growth means adapting to the needs of the community. In recent years, the Pasco Fire Department has seen a nearly 18% increase in calls. With that increase in calls, it's also seen an increase in the response times to those calls. The city of Pasco set a response time goal of six minutes from when the firefighters leave their station to arriving on scene.

An app that notifies users when someone nearby is in cardiac arrest expanded its reach in western Washington on Thursday. King County fire departments joined others throughout the region already using PulsePoint. The app sends an alert to nearby users so they can quickly help before first responders arrive.
