U.S. COVID Cases Are Rising Again, but Worries Are Not

The steady increase in COVID-19 cases this past month is not disconcerting to Americans, as they are less worried now about the coronavirus than they were at the start of the year, and fewer are social distancing. Fewer than one in three U.S. adults (31%) say they are "very" or "somewhat worried" about getting COVID-19, statistically similar to the 34% recorded in mid-February when cases were steeply declining after the omicron spike.

Firefighters of all levels to train in new Walla Walla drill tower

VIDEO: The community was invited to an open house from 1-4 p.m. on May 10 for the new Walla Walla Fire Department, College Place Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District 4 fire drill tower at 300 Cayuse Street. The new facility replaced the previous drill tower, which opened in 1974 and was described as being “at the end of its useful life.

Airway Heights firefighters save several businesses in large fire

VIDEO: A vacant apartment building in Airway Heights is likely a total loss after a large fire late Tuesday night. The fire was first reported around 8:45 p.m. off Highway 2 near South Lawson and Campbell streets. The fire has been knocked down as of Wednesday morning, but fire crews remain on the scene watching for any hotspots.

Spokane community bands together to protect homes and properties from wildfires

Residents, community leaders, forest health experts, local fire districts, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) joined in Spokane’s Four Mound community today to kick off this year’s Wildfire Ready Neighbors. The program provides homeowners, renters, and small forest landowners the resources and tools to help protect themselves from wildfires.

Nick of Time program in Anacortes promotes early detection of heart problems in youths

As students walked into the gym at Anacortes High School May 4 for a heart health event, they had several stops to make. The event, hosted by the Nick of Time Foundation in partnership with Island Health, the Island Hospital Foundation, the Anacortes School District and more, was several years in the making.
