Silverdale home bursts into flames while family out of town

A family wasn’t home when its home burst into flames, but firefighters were able to take it down. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue was called to the 1100 block of Random Place NW in Silverdale at 9:41 Monday evening. The initial call from neighbors said the family living there could be inside. Crews say the fire was bursting through the home’s roof when they arrived as they searched for the family.

Follow Up: Bellevue landslide was 'reminiscent of an earthquake scenario'

The landslide that put several homes and dozens of people at risk in Bellevue's Somerset neighborhood was "reminiscent of an earthquake scenario or severe weather event," the city's fire chief said Tuesday. Fire Chief Jay Hagan said by the time first responders arrived during the early morning hours on Monday, more than 40 people were outside, trying to understand what was happening.

Meet 2051: Citizens’ (PA) Fire Company No.1’s New Custom Rescue Pumper

In late December, Citizens’ (PA) Fire Company No.1 took delivery of 2051, its new KME-built custom rescue pumper.

Crews have been training on it recently.

The truck, which has been out on quick medical response calls, cost $750,000 and replaces a 1994 KME rescue and a 1989 pumper, which were both sold to nearby fire companies. Proceeds went toward the new apparatus, according to a report in tnonline.com.

It carries 750 gallons of water and a full set of response and rescue tools.

Dead Baby Found in Duffel Bag at Chicago (IL) Fire Station

Firefighters in Chicago (IL) found a baby in a duffel bag outside a fire station Saturday morning when they went outside to shovel, reports ABC7.

The discovery was made around 5 a.m. outside of a station on the 1000 block of North Orleans Street. Firefighters reported there was no attempt made to contact anyone in the station.

Illinois’ Safe Haven Law law allows anyone to drop off a newborn baby at fire stations, hospitals, police stations, and emergency rooms.

The Chicago Fire Department is reminding the public that someone can leave newborns with firefighters and paramedics with no questions asked.
