Sellersville (PA) Volunteer Fire Department Raising Funds for High-Water Truck

The Sellersville (PA) Volunteer Fire Department says it is in the process of purchasing a high-water truck.

Fundraising efforts in collaboration with Faith Christian Academy have begun for the apparatus, which will be used during flooding events in town and in the surrounding communities.

“The vehicle is capable of traveling through deep water, allowing us to reach people in need,” the department writes on Facebook. “Our friends at Faith Christian Academy are helping us to reach our goal, and when we get there, we’ll have kindergartner Sammy be our Fire Chief for a day! What an awesome experience!”

Roadway safety education and other proactive steps to improve roadway safety is often overlooked by departments until they experience a struck-by incident. In January 2020, a struck-by incident killed a firefighter and a police officer and critically injured another firefighter in Lubbock. Irving, Texas, has had several near misses, several apparatus struck, and a firefighter was injured in December 2020 by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a section of roadway that was closed to all through traffic. Learn from these case studies to make your roadway operations safer for your personnel.
