Kennewick homes, cars threatened by flaming trees sparked by a fire pit

PHOTO: Flames threatened to spread from shrubs and trees to houses on a residential block in the Tri-Cities area on Saturday afternoon, drawing emergency responders from across the city and county. House fire causes $100,000 of damage in Yakima

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) was sent to a house fire on E. Chestnut Ave. near the E. Yakima Ave freeway entrance of I-82 Sunday afternoon. YFD received a call about the fire at 2:15 pm. When crews arrived to the residence in the 1200 block of E. Chestnut Ave., they found smoke coming out of the eaves on all sides of the house, with heavy smoke coming from the back of the house.

Rock Island Structure Fire Destroys Mobile Home

Firefighting efforts were winding down after a structure fire on Penn Avenue in Rock Island Friday afternoon. Douglas County Fire District 2 Spokesperson Kay McKellar said crews received the call just after 2:00 pm. Soon after, the incident commander arrived at the scene and reported a single-wide mobile home on fire, as well as some nearby tires.

Apartment complex destroyed, man injured attempting to put out Bremerton fire

A Bremerton man suffered burns and smoke inhalation in a fast-moving fire Saturday night at a four-unit apartment building near downtown. It took fire crews from much of the Kitsap Peninsula several hours to knock down the flames, which destroyed the apartments and threatened nearby homes. All the residents of the apartments survived, firefighters said, but a cat died in the blaze.

Union City (MI) Fire Department Adds 75-Foot Aerial to Fleet

The Union City Fire Department has added a 75-foot aerial ladder to its fleet. The fire truck, which pumps 2,500 gallons per minute and has a 500-gallon water tank, replaces a 43-year-old ladder.

The apparatus was previously owned by Farmington Hills.
