Firefighter injured trying to save Otis Orchards home from burning

A firefighter was injured trying to save an unoccupied home from burning Wednesday night. The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to the fire around 10 p.m. near E Crestwood Lane and N Ryley Lane in Otis Orchards. Crews tried to knock down the flames with a hose line, but ran out of water. The Newman Lake and Hauser Lake Fire Departments each supplied a water tender to help provide water for the fire.

Citing growth, Vancouver seeks $15 million a year to upgrade firefighting services

When firefighters in one part of Vancouver are overwhelmed with emergency calls, dispatchers fielding new calls in that area start pulling firefighters from elsewhere – areas further away that lead to delays in emergency response times. This happens about four times every day, often involving life-threatening calls, according to Vancouver Fire Chief Brennan Blue.

Santa to tour Stanwood, Camano neighborhoods collecting food, toy donations

Santa will soon be cruising through area neighborhoods, escorted by local firefighters. Listen for sirens and look for flashing lights as Mr. Claus will cruise Stanwood neighborhoods atop big red fire engines collecting food and toy donations. The tour starts at 5 p.m. on weekends and 5:30 p.m. on weeknights.

Morgantown (WV) Fire Department Getting New Truck, Equipment

Morgantown (WV) is moving forward with the purchase of a new ladder truck for its fire department, reports wajr.com.

The new apparatus is an 18-foot-long truck that will replace a 25-year-old truck housed at the South High Street fire station, the report says. Its funding will come via the city’s escrow fund.

Council also approved the purchase of replacement gear for the department, according to the report.

Woman Convicted of Arson for Starting Pe Ell House Fire in October

Debra J. Bridges, 61, of Pe Ell, has pleaded guilty to starting a fire that burned down her residence and has been sentenced to five months in prison, with credit for the 64 days she has served in jail since her arrest on Oct. 14. Bridges is required to undergo a mental health evaluation while in custody and complete any recommended treatment.
