Actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore welcomed the Long Beach Fire Department to the “Drew Barrymore Show” last month. Barrymore recognized the entire department, highlighting firefighter Catherine Lewis.
Lewis, who is known as Cat to her fellow firefighters, was sworn in as the first paid female firefighter in the department’s 111-year history in March, which Barrymore noted.

Firefighters believe that a structure fire on the 800-block of Dow Drive was sparked by improper disposal of ashes from a wood stove on Wednesday night.

A nearly decade-long partnership between Camas and Washougal that formed the Camas-Washougal Fire Department in 2013, “has too many gaps to represent a sustainable model moving forward,” consultants told Camas and Washougal city officials during a Nov. 18 Zoom meeting.
“Some of you are probably saying, ‘Well, duh, that’s why we’re here,'” Rob Moody, a consultant with the Tualatin-based Merina + CO, which has been reviewing the CWFD partnership since May 2021, told local officials.

Tacoma’s Police have some worrying numbers for the city.
During a citywide briefing on Nov. 21, the Tacoma Police Department brought in data that shows crime on the rise in a variety of areas, with the sharpest increase in arson.
“It’s not a yard waste fire that someone started and it got away from them,” said Alex Wilsie, assistant fire chief for the Tacoma Fire Department explained.
