Facing an aging fleet, the Rowlett (TX) Fire Department is looking to purchase a $1.12 million, 75-foot ladder truck, reports starlocalmedia.com.
The apparatus, available for immediate delivery, would cost $1,127,726 total, and city officials expressed support for the purchase, according to the report.
In 2015, the city refurbished two apparatus and purchased two others, but the former has exceeded its viable use, the report says. An increase in calls and community growth over the years have only exacerbated the problem.

The department currently has two reserve apparatus, which have seen recent regular use due to breakdowns. The report notes that over the past year the department has been left with one reserve 82% of the time and no reserves 39% of the time.
The department currently has two new apparatus on order, but they won’t be ready until fall 2022, officials say.
Council says it will revisit the issue in two weeks and attempt to figure out payment issues.
