Battalion Chief, Joseph Strauss said station number 4 was built in 1961 and is the only fire station with a basement under where the department keeps its rigs.

When the station was built, the floor was rated to hold only 10,000-15,000 pounds. The department's rig weighs nearly 40,000 pounds.

Engine 501 began service with the Flower Mound (TX) Fire Department on December 1, 2016. The cab/chassis is a Pierce Velocity model (medium body) with seating for five and a forward-facing EMS cabinet mounted on the right side wall of the cab. A Coleman Mach 8 AC-Heat unit (15K cool; 6K heat) mounted over the center of the cab provides auxiliary temperature control when the apparatus is not in use. The apparatus is constructed of standard aluminum with side roll and frontal impact protection. Full-depth compartments and AMDOR roll-up doors are featured. SCBA storage is located in front of the rear wheel wells on each side.

The power is provided by a Cummins ISL9 450-hp engine and an Allison 5th Generation 3000 EVS five-speed transmission with pushbutton controls. The TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension System is featured, as is the Pierce Command Zone advanced electronic and control system. A Harrison Model MSV 6-kW generator is located in the upper right front of the body.

The apparatus has a Pierce single-stage, midship 1,500-gpm pump along with a 750-gallon polypropylene tank. The engine has pump-and-roll capability. Foam capabilities are provided by a Husky 12 Foam System with a 20-gallon foam cell. Foam is plumbed to the front jump line, the crosslays, the left rear discharge, and the right rear outboard discharge.

The hosebed carries 1,050 feet of five-inch LDH and 400 feet of 2½-inch hose. Two pre-connects (200 feet of 2½-inch hose) are located in an enclosed compartment on the upper right rear of the body. The front bumper tray carries 200 feet of 1¾-inch hose connected to a gated wye on the left front bumper and a 100-foot dry lay of 1½-inch hose. Two crosslays (200 feet each of 1¾-inch hose with 1½-inch discharges) and one crosslay (200 feet of 2½-inch hose) are located in a semienclosed compartment behind the cab adjacent to the pump panel. An Elkhart Cobra EXM 7250 Electric Monitor (with wireless remote) and an Elkhart Select-O-Matic Nozzle are mounted above the pump panel. A hydraulic ladder rack on the right side of the hose body carries two ladders (Duo-Safety 900-A 24-foot two-section and Duo-Safety 775A 14-roof roof). A Duo-Safety 10-foot folding ladder is stored under the ladder rack. A Little Giant Model 13 folding ladder is stored in the left rear body compartment.

Warning lights include a Whelen Freedom FN72VLED Lightbar and Whelen M6 LED lights on the apparatus body. Scene lighting is provided by FRC Spectra Max lights on the body (model SPA 260-Q20) and a FRC Spectra Max brow light (Model SPA 100-Q28).
