San Francisco fire stations will light up again; holiday decoration contest returns

San Francisco firehouses will light up again for the holidays, formally reviving a station decoration tradition that started in the 1940s, then was brought back last year to add some joy during bleak pandemic times. With less than two weeks’ notice in 2020, 17 stations set up elaborate decorations, including a winning house (Station 38 in Pacific Heights) that produced snow.

Ohio air force base fire department completes 8,500 training sessions a year

Woman dies in house fire in Clark County

One person has died after a home in the Orchards areas caught fire early Thursday morning. The Vancouver Fire Department said crews were called out to a house fire in the 15500 block of Northeast 99th Street at about 6:30 a.m. VFD said a large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away as crews were responding.

Breaking down the door for female firefighters, lieutenant Leslee Smith retires from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue

Lieutenant Leslee Smith retired from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue in October after 26 years of service, leaving behind a trailblazing career where she helped women see themselves in bunker gear and a red hat. Smith, a B.C. native, spent the beginning of her career as a child care counselor in B.C. and a behavioral specialist at Blaine Primary School.
