Albuquerque Fire Dept. dispatcher hangs up on 911 caller as teen dies

AUDIO: An Albuquerque firefighter could be in trouble for what he said to a 911 caller after a 17-year-old was shot at a party. The firefighter then proceeded to hang up on the caller as Jaydon Chavez-Silver was dying. Chavez-Silver was shot and killed during a party in the Heights back on June 26. He had only been there for five minutes when someone started shooting at the home.

$75K Reward Offered for Drones Hindering California Firefighters

The San Bernardino Board of Supervisors said it will move to authorize a $75,000 reward for information leading up to the arrest and conviction of the operators of drones that hampered recent firefighting efforts. Officials said the presence of drones within the same airspace as firefighting aircraft who were responding to recent fires forced the planes to land.

A volunteer fire department recently explained why a man, who was dressed in a T-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes, was helping during a large fire last weekend. They did not explain why he was allowed to do so without full PPE. Lake Placid News reported that the major structure fire consumed one downtown building and damaged another.

North Carolina captain found dead inside fire station

A firefighter died Monday morning at a fire station in Stanly County. Officials said Capt. James Alan Hicks responded to a fire in Stanly County with the National Guard Fire Department Sunday night. He died at the fire station before his shift ended Monday. An official said an autopsy is pending, but believe he may have died from a heart attack.

Hawaii Firefighters Wary About Billing Hikers for Rescues

A new ordinance allows the Kauai County Fire Department to bill reckless hikers who have to be rescued. But Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman said it's unclear whether the department ever will do so. "We are leery about charging people," Westerman said. "If they know they're going to be charged, they're going to be less likely to call in.
