Lewis County: Fire District 8 in Salkum and Silver Creek to Ask for First EMS Levy in 55-Year History

In its 55-year-history, Lewis County Fire District 8 in Salkum/Silver Creek has never yet asked for an EMS levy above its base property tax rate, said Anne Piper, chairwoman of the district’s Board of Commissioners. Until this year, that is. Fire District 8 residents will be asked to vote on a 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value Emergency Medical Services levy.

Moses Lake fire closes Interstate 90 in both directions

Smoke for multiple fires in Moses Lake closed Interstate 90. Flames burned through multiple commercial buildings along North Frontage Road E. The flames could be seen from I90. Broken-down minivan sparks I-5 brush fire in Lacey

A disabled minivan caught fire Thursday evening and sparked a brush fire off I-5 in Lacey. A man driving a minivan northbound on I-5 near Meridian Road noticed smoke coming from his vehicle at about 7:20 p.m. He pulled over to the shoulder, and as soon as he got out of the van he saw flames coming from underneath the vehicle's front end, according to Washington State trooper Guy Gill.

Firefighters pulling double duty at Stevens County Fire Dist. #1

Mariann Crooks has already had a busy summer - this is her 2nd summer serving as a volunteer firefighter for Fire District 1. "I have 2 kids still at home," she said. "They run downstairs to see if I'm still there, because I usually get called out at night." Brush fires cause an estimated $780K to 3 Vancouver homes

Two fires that started in vegetation and then spread to three nearby homes on Wednesday caused a total estimated damage of $780,000, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office. The two separate fires were reported within about an hour and a half of each other, stretching firefighting resources thin as crews worked to quell one blaze before being called to the second.
