Spokane firefighters battle abandoned warehouse fire

Fire investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a vacant commercial building near Sprague and Grant Thursday morning. Firefighters say when they arrived around 1:00 am, flames were burning in the alley and up the side of the building. The flames had also knocked down power lines. Firefighters had a challenge getting to the building, but once they did, they were able to knock the fire down relatively quickly.

Paradise Fire continues up Pelton Peak

The Paradise Fire continues to creep slowly up the slope of the 5,301-foot Pelton Peak in Olympic National Park and has now reached an elevation of 3,000 feet. The fire began at around 700 feet in elevation and is now burning on both sides of Paradise Creek through heavy fuels on the forest floor. Both the eastern and western edges of the fire are reported to be quiet and crews are successfully keeping it north of the Queets River, Olympic National Park officials said Wednesday.

Officials rule out natural causes in Wenatchee wildfire

Firefighters attacked hotspots Wednesday at a wildfire that has destroyed nearly 30 homes in the central Washington city of Wenatchee. By Wednesday evening, a fire spokesman said the blaze was 83 percent contained. Earlier in the day, a Chelan County sheriff's spokesman said the fire was likely human-caused.

Fire guts 2 Beacon Hill homes after mystery explosion

Two homes were gutted by flames overnight in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood after neighbors reported hearing an explosion, officials said. But so far, investigators have not pinpointed what caused the explosion or the fire. Crews responded to the scene, in the 3500 block of South Holden Street, at about 9 p.

Illegal fireworks spark Lynnwood blaze, 2 arrested

As July 4 approaches, two Lynnwood men learned the hard way Tuesday night why firefighters are so wary this year. The men, 32 and 26, were walking on a sidewalk along the Alderwood Mall Parkway just south of the I-5 overpass when one of them lit a firework. The 26-year-old man told police he knew he shouldn’t throw it into traffic so he tossed it over a fence into some dry grass.
